Reflection
Internship is an opportunity given to every Junior at HTHCV where we must find a business or any organization that we feel interested in and that will take us in as an intern after an interview. I chose an elementary school because I was really curious what it would be like assisting a teacher in their class and I knew that my only opportunity to really get involved in a class and see what it truly was like to be a leader was going to be my internship. When I showed up on my first day of internship I was immediately tossed into the role of a teacher and a leader, I was assigned to the troublesome kids on the first day the worst of them being Gluey. I immediately realized that these kids were not going to pay attention and I was in for a bumpy ride that consisted of a lot of “are you paying attention” and “Come on focus your almost done”. Two weeks passed working with the troublesome group and after lots of one on one work I reached a point where I got through to them, i'm not sure how but I did and that's what really matters. The kids stopped slacking off as much and actually seemed to enjoy doing their work I really felt like I became the teacher I wanted. Gluey often times came up to me asking for help which was huge change from his normal work ethic of just playing once he got stuck. I really did learn that a leader can shape you especially when you are so young and i'm going to give myself some credit here and say that those troublesome kids probably would have stayed in the same mindset if it wasn't for me interning with their class before they headed off to the first grade. I can now confidently say that my leadership and communication has changed the lives of Mrs.Maries class. (Names changed for privacy reasons)
