Model United Nations
This project was another part to our refugee project, we where put as UN members discussing the topic of how to improve the health of refugees. I was in the WHO comity and re[resented Iraq for the project.
To prepare for the project we had to research a lot about our country. I read about 15 articles and most of them where pretty boring and useless but as for the one i have linked it helped me a lot because of the topics it touches on about the leaders.

For the Opening Speech paper i didn't get much critique because of the fact that i had my friends review my paper but the little info they did give me helped a lot. I added more bulk so my opening statement would last 3 minutes and had a decent ending statement.

My position paper was the most difficult to write because i couldn't properly represent what Iraq stands for because they have very different views on subjects than me. My paper was horrible but with help i was able to add detail a hook and a finisher.

My Experience
i am most proud of the fact that i just managed to get through one of the slowest and most boring project i have every done in my humanities class ever. I was happy that my comity found a solution to the problems we where facing. Honestly i wouldn't do anything different besides finding someway to give smaller countries a voice. If you want to be prepared just read read and read some more about your country because that is the only way you can get to know what you need to know to succeed.
Key Moment In Mun
My favorite moment in the whole project was the debating process because i actually got to talk and do what i enjoyed instead of just reading. I also enjoyed being able to see other countries perspectives on the issue and have a conversation as if i where not myself.
The Book Of Us
The book of us project was a class effort to make a book filled with our stories. Every student wrote upwards of one page to put into the book talking about one of their stories. For this project I wrote about the dangers of reading and talked about a few of my experiences with reading.
Real World Writing Purpose Field Guide |
This field guide was the first step in the book writing process. This allowed us to get a general idea of what to write about for a few different topics. This paper also helped me get a general idea of what to look at as mentor text based on the topic i wanted to write about.
1 Topic = 18 Topics
This was for me the hardest part of the entire writing process because this is where we decided what our entire piece was going to be about. It took me several days to fill this out and i ended up filling like 5 of them in at the end only to write about something totally different. I went for the take a stand portion of the piece because i felt that i could create a strong piece based on that topic.

Five Minute Quick Write
The five minute quick writes where the first part of the actual writing process. We chose one of the topics from the 1 topic = 18 topics and wrote about that topic for five minutes. I used what i wrote to mold what i wanted my final piece to look like. This process helped me out a lot as well even though i used a different topic.

Down Draft |
This was my original writing piece about a card game i play called mtg and how i first got into playing it. I wrote it pretty quick the day before it was due and just did it to get something down to turn it in. I've re read it and now i can really see the difference from it and the piece i have now.
Reverse Engineering Mentor Text |
For this paper we chose a mentor text that we could use as a outline for our piece. The mentor text i used was pretty similar to what i wanted to write about. I read Richard Garfield's paper on when he first started playing and making the card game MTG. I think that i got a lot of influence from the text because i really liked the way he talked it was very similar to what i assumed he would sound like if we where having a normal conversation.
Graphic Organizer
We used a lot of graphic organizers this year but there was only one that really helped me out. The opening lines organizer was my absolute favorite because when i write the opening line is my seed and everything branches out from there. I feel like all of the other graphic organizers didn't do anything for me because they didn't go over areas where i really needed help and only made me more confused.
Feedback & Critique
We used a lot of critiques in class but one definitely helped me out more than others. The scissor critique really helped me out because i felt like my writing could have been worded differently or in a different order to make it stronger. I really didn't like the author lead critique because i feel like it made little to no impact on my piece.
Final Draft |
I really like where I ended with this piece of writing because I'm proud of every word I wrote. It took me longer than most to come up with this idea and I think that the time was well spent because I'm really happy with what I wrote. Next time I write a piece I really want to add more detail to certain areas of my piece because I think detail is the only real thing I'm lacking. I would also like to add some higher vocabulary to my piece to make it a little more interesting.
Reflection
This project was a pretty long one and was really difficult for me because I really don't like writing. I started of writing about one of my favorite card games and stayed with that for awhile but decided to move onto a new topic once I was told that I could do better. I brainstormed for quite awhile and eventually decided to write about the danger of books and what they can do to you. I really liked the way I saw my idea transform throughout this project and really hope that more of my work can really evolve like my writing piece did. Although I really think that next time a should add more detail to my work but overall I really liked the way it turned out.
Tribes Project
Intro to ProjectThe tribes project was a group effort and was based on the book a true diary of a part time Indian which we read in class. Most of the project was made up of poetry and learning about the main characters life and the facts behind it. This was also one of the first projects we did this year.

The house on mango street
For this project we read a scripture from the house on mango street and analyzed it in groups and discussed what we felt and heard as we read it. We then used our senses that we felt while reading to create a song to go along with the piece that we read. Our group had a nice steady tone and beat because the chapter we read was explaining the fun she had with her friends.

I sing to you Poem
This project was about learning about someone and writing about them to improve our descriptive skills. To start the project we chose a partner and interviewed them and had a few sample questions to help us learn about them. We had 20 minutes to talk and then got straight to writing. I really enjoyed this activity because it improved some of my essential skills and allowed me to learn more about the people around me almost like an icebreaker but more effective.

My Work For The Presentation
For the project i was in charge of creating a self portrait power point for the performance on a true diary of a part time Indian. This power point had the pictures of all the students in black and white and would be playing as a friend of mine played the piano. I felt very proud of my work because i got to present it in front of a room full of people who seemed to enjoy it.

Self portrait
For my self portrait i chose to do a head shot because i thought it looked the nicest and full body shots are had to make look nice. I also chose this picture because i think that the bubble really shows how well the black white contrast works. This photo is also a lot deeper than it looks i had the bubble because it really represents how filled to the brim i a with what the world throws at me and it just stretches me and pushes my boundaries until i finally pop.

Belonging
I read an article about people and how they feel like they need to belong to something because it makes them feel protected and appreciated. The specific article i read compared cults to apple because they both used similar commercial like techniques to spread their beliefs and products to the unwilling victims that fall prey to them.

ReflectionI think i belong to the tribe of dapper men and i think that i will always be part of that tribe but i think that this project allowed me to see some of the other inferior tribes that there are which was cool because now i know that my tribe is the best. I also learned that writing for another person is a lot harder than i thought it was. Its pretty easy to write for myself but you really have to try and research to write for someone else. Writing was pretty easy but i think that it still helped me out because i was able to add so much detail with so little to write about which should help me out later with different assignments. I think that working in groups really helped me with my interaction skills. I used to have trouble working with groups and now i feel comfortable working with others which is pretty cool. I think that i will remember all the reading that we had to do in this project for my entire high school years because there was a lot of it.
